American Defense Minister Lloyd Austin will meet Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh next week. A top official of the US Ministry of Defense (Pentagon) said that during this time talks will be held between the two countries on how to materialize defense partnerships. A top Biden administration official is visiting India for the first time.



Let me tell you that this meeting is considered to be very important under the rapid growth in defense relations between India and America. Earlier in June 2016, the US has already declared India as its biggest defense partner. Austin will travel to Japan and South Korea before touring India next week.



Defense Minister David F. Halevy, assistant caretaker of the Indo-Pacific security affairs, said that Lloyd Austin will also meet Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and other leaders in India. They will also discuss implementing major defense partnerships with India. It also includes information sharing between the two countries, regional defense agreements, defense trade and cooperation in new areas. According to the Pentagon, Austin will be visiting India from March 19 to March 21.


Use of each other's bases

Over the years, the two countries have signed several important defense and security agreements. These include the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) in 2016. Under this, the armies of the two countries can use each other's bases to repair and supply military equipment.


India is an important strategic partner

Assistant Minister of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, Defense Minister David F. Halevy said, India is an important strategic partner for the US. The visit will provide an opportunity for ideological exchanges between the two countries. It will also be able to know how to work together for a rule-based international system.
